HOUSING & SYSTEMIC RACISM

The Fair Housing Act of 1968, amended in 1988, prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, family status, and national origin. It was intended as a follow-up to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Despite the legislation, discrimination and systemic racism are still present in our housing policies.

ABOUT THE HOUSING TASK FORCE

Golden United launched a community-driven Housing Task Force (HTF) in 2018 to: 

  • Preserve affordable housing in Golden for all income levels 

  • Preserve manufactured housing communities as a key niche for affordable housing in Golden 

  • Advocate for additional affordable housing in Golden for all income levels 

  • Promote awareness and education about housing issues and solutions for Golden 

  • Convene discussions and citizen engagement to address housing issues in Golden 

  • Mobilize funding for emergency rent and utility assistance for Golden residents
